Well, it's done. The plastic surgeon and the ENT have said December 21st is the day they will do Matthew's new surgery. We have to be there at the crack of dawn and hopefully, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, we'll be outta there by evening time. It all depends on if we can get Matthew to eat something or drink something. If he can't do it, he will stay the night.
As usual, Momma had questions for the plastic surgeon. I wrote him a nice long email and do you know that he emailed me back in 2 hours?!?!?! Dr. Ananth Murthy at Children's National Medical Center is thee BEST plastic and reconstructive surgeon! I love him and trust him wholeheartedly with our son, Matthew. Matthew likes him too. Anyway, his part of the surgery will take about an hour and a half, barring any unforeseen things happen.
The ENT (Dr. Pena, a lady) is a really cool doctor too. Her part of the surgery will take approximately 15 minutes. (again, providing everything goes well) She will slit Matthew's eardrums, insert the ear tubes and that's it! Oh, he will also be fitted with some super dooper ear plugs. NO, and I mean, NO water is to go into his ears! Not even by accident!!!!! I've been there, done that when I was little. (twice actually)
So for the moment, Matthew will be "under" for about 2 hours. Maybe shorter. I'm glad for that. Mom and Dad will be up there with him. Aunt K will have Rebecca, most likely. Or Cousin Jksn. :o)
I'm praying that Matthew's scarring will be minimal and his hearing will be opened up TREMENDOUSLY as soon as the ear tubes are inserted!!!! I'm hoping his speech gets 100 times better because of this. I know, I'm expecting alot, but hey, the Lord can do miracles! I believe it, it can happen to my Matthew!

I love hearing good things about Dr. Murthy. We hope to bring our daughter home in March and I plan on trying to schedule her first appointment with him as soon as we have TA. He reviewed her file for us and responded to my questions via email within 12 hours, and he doesn't know us from a hole in the wall - never asked what kind of insurance we have, etc. He just seems wonderful! I dont' usually post, but I wanted to let you know I check in! Thanks, Laura Beth
Hope Matthew's surgery goes well! Caleb is scheduled for his initial lip/palate repair and ear tubes on the 11th. Not looking forward to the recovery but definitly looking forward to my little guy being able to do so much more. Just think how much noisier those Chinese celebrations will be once these boys can all talk!
We are so blessed to have so many great options to chose from in our area!

Laura Beth,
I cannot sing Dr. Murthy's praises loud enough. I'm telling you, the man is so good with the children. He's so tender with them. He saw my Matthew in the hospital after he did surgery and Matthew was having a really hard time with pain. He ordered a morphine shot and Matthew was OUT. Said that if it happened again, page him immediately. (Matthew was tossing about, screaming, would throw himself everywhere, nothing I did helped. I cried along with him. The nurses were good, but could only do what the orders said.) I can't imagine doing his surgeries anywhere else!
Don't be just a lurker! SHOUT IT when you have TA! I wanna follow your journey!!!

Melissa,
I'm following your blog. Don't worry! Haven't responded because of our little one's 2nd surgery. Now he needs teeth extracted! (cleft teeth growing the wrong way and totally decayed!)
I can't wait for Caleb's surgery. It will be hard the first couple of days, but after that? You'll be fine!
